Director's Notes

With each passing year, we lose more voices that have enriched our hearts and souls, and brought decades of joy and unforgettable music. Occupational Hazard was born from the desire to celebrate the original Coral Reefer Band members of the 1970s and their pivotal contributions to Jimmy Buffett’s legacy. This documentary offers a rare glimpse into their stories—how their journeys intertwined, how the spirit of Key West inspired groundbreaking music, and how they evolved from road-tripping in rental cars to recording hit albums and touring in style.

Our project has received overwhelming support from past and current band members who believe these untold stories deserve to be shared. This film is a tribute not just to the music but to the camaraderie and creativity that defined an era and gave rise to a unique genre. We invite you to join us in honoring the Coral Reefers of the 1970s and their enduring influence through this heartfelt independent documentary.
